This city in the Marches is a very active fishing centre and one of the top seaside resorts on the central Adriatic coast. Located at the mouth of the torrent Albula, it stretches from the River Tesino to the north and the Tronto to the south. It is noted for its long beaches, distinguished by their fine white sand, that gently to the sea, which has shallow floor. The seafront is distinguished by its rich vegetation, with countless palm trees that even grow on the beach.

Because of this unique feature, San Benedetto has also been nicknamed the "Riviera of the palms". It has a numerous tourist facilities, ranging from hotels to holiday flats and campsites. There are also many features that complement the beach resort, such as the Tourist Port, the Sailing Club, the Tennis Club, the Sports Arena, the hockey and skating complex, the bocce court, the swimming pools, and the running track. Its vicinity to the lush hillsides with important medieval hamlets, located just a few kilometres away, offers interesting touring opportunities for art-lovers and history buffs. San Benedetto is also the homeland of Brodetto alla sambenedettese, an original dish made using vinegar, peppers and green tomatoes. The area is also famed for its DOC wines: Falerio dei Colli Ascolani, Rosso Piceno and Rosso Piceno Superiore.
