In the shadow of mountain Predicatore

At nature trek among the woods of Monte Predicatore, one of the most beautiful corners of the park. The route on foot

From the lake continue along the asphalt road for about two hundred metres until you reach a Park sign on the right,indicatine the footpath to Monte Predicatore (107AG). Lake Fossi

Monte Predicatore

This is one of the most important forests in the region, planted by Austrian prisoners of war during the First World War. There are the information plaques along the route that help you to observe the changes in the woodland as the path climbs in altitude. Various species of tree can be seen here, sush as the Austrian black pine, the white and red larch, the beech, the Scotch pine, the cluster pine and the umbrella pine.

Genga Castle

Its excellent restoration conserves the medieval urban layout. Its unusual houses are built directly into the scaglia rossa limestone. After admiring the residence of the counts of Genga- which now houses the offices of the municipal council and the Consorzio Frassassi- with its entrance portal framed by a radial stone rustication, it is possible to visit the collection of sacred art in the former parish church of San Clemente (11th Century). It contains a triptych by Antonio da Fabriano, onje of the leading 15th Centuty Marche paiters, as well as small marble statue of the Madonna with Child from the workshop of the famous neo-classical sculptor Antonio Canova, probably a gift by Pope Leone XII to his home town.
